Obracodobra Artist Residency is housed within the walls of the Casa Colonial in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Casa Colonial has been in operation for over forty years as a unique guest house with fifteen rooms, a library, dining room, kitchen and most notably a gorgeous, lush garden. The studios at Obracadobra are located in a private section on the Casa property. There are two ways to access the Obracadobra art studios. Studios can be booked through the Casa Colonial manager throughout the year. Also, there is a summer residency for artists and writers at a discounted rate. Please see details below.

Obracadobra Artist in Residence Summer Program

We welcome artists and writers to apply for the Summer artist-in-residence program. The goal is to create a diverse group of creative people to work in proximity to each other during the summer. The normal studio fee is reduced to $35 USD per day for this special residency period. There are some scholarship options available as well. Applications for Summer 2023 will be received starting Oct 15 2022. The deadline is February 1, 2023. More information for Artist in Residency applicants here.

Year-Round Art Studios

Year-round art studios are available for booking through the Casa Colonial throughout the year except for one month in the summer. Please click here for more information and to contact the manager. The fees for year-round studios are $1500 USD for the month for writers or artists who do not require studio space and $1800 USD with art studio.

Year-Round Artist Workshops

The studios are ideal for small, hands on workshops, and lecture series. Participants can stay at the Casa where they can dine together and relax. The studio accommodates twelve people comfortably, and the corridor in front of the studio offers even more space. In the past, we have accomodated textile, collage and printmaking workshops. If you are interested in setting up a workshop please contact the Casa Colonial manager here.
