Obracodobra is an artist residency located in the heart of Oaxaca City - the capital of the State of Oaxaca in Mexico. Oaxaca is a renowned cultural center and has a rich artistic lineage that goes back centuries. Nestled in a beautiful valley, Oaxaca is famous for weavings, wood carvings, ceramics, architecture, food, and of course a deep and inspiring history as can be experienced at the numerous archeological zones.
This artist residency, featuring spacious art studios, writers accommodations, a library and a gorgeous garden, is a home for creative people. Obracadobra is ideal for new media artists, painters, printmakers, photographers, illustrators, writers and more. Included in an artist's stay is a full breakfast, work space, wireless internet and a single accommodation. Obracadobra is located within the
Casa Colonial a unique guest house in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Artists and writers are encouraged and supported. Artists recharge, investigate, explore, reflect, experiment and produce work in the studio or elsewhere. We provide studio space and a home base for artists to connect with the region. Individual artists, art collectives and collaborating partners are welcomed.

Obracadobra is proud to participate in Earthbound Moon's special exhibitions project RIME.
Earthbound Moon is a small American not-for-profit terraforming the planet
Earth into a sculpture garden over the next several generations of human
existence. In the near term they are building a non-contiguous sculpture
garden across the planet's surface. Through auxiliary programs such as
RIME (a program using simple design and 6' x 4' flexible displays to
foster and facilitate traveling exhibits from museums and cultural
institutions normally left out of such an expensive activity) they are
stitching together their non-contiguous sites into a web of discussions
and engagements between diverse communities.
Obracadobra's mission is to be an international creative center dedicated to providing a space for artists and writers to develop their practice while making connections within a new community of artists. The facilities can host individual artists as well as lectures, workshops and visiting university groups. Past artists have also used the studios as exhibition space at the end of their residency.
The residency was founded by Amanda Saxe Barr and Jean Robison who are artists living in the United States. Amanda and Jean are the daughters of Jane and Thorny Robison, the owners of the Casa Colonial.
